Council gives final approval prohibiting sale of cats, dogs, rabbits in pet stores
Among those speaking in favor of Fort Atkinson adopting restrictions for the sale of cats, dogs and rabbits in pet stores during the “public comment” portion of the meeting were Peggy Race, who described herself as a member of “Bailing Out Benji,” a nonprofit dog rescue organization begun in 2011, which focuses on education about large-scale commercial puppy breeders often called “puppy mills.”

HSUS Puppy Mill Hero Award
Congratulations to Wisconsin's very own Peggy Race for being one of fourteen people to receive the HSUS Stop Puppy Mills Campaign award given to local heroes who have made a difference fighting puppy mills in their communities! Peggy is the Wisconsin Team Leader for the nonprofit organization Bailing Out Benji. Her passion to end the suffering of mill dogs is evident in her successful efforts to pass the first Humane Pet Store Ordinance in Wisconsin.

Whitewater prohibits sale of dogs, cats and rabbits from pet stores
In 2017, Peggy Race adopted one of her dogs, Deputy, a cocker spaniel mix who was surrendered from a puppy mill in Kansas.

Peggy Race urged a Whitewater City Council member to propose an ordinance prohibiting the sale of dogs and cats from pet stores. She wants to reduce the demand for mills that raise animals in inhumane conditions.
